Spring Styling Tips for your Home

Colour Balance

Different colours can create different feelings for a space, so consider how you want to use the room and how you want to feel in that space when choosing your colours. Make sure if you are using multiple colours that they work with each other. If using a scheme with 3 colours, you want to stick to 60% for your dominant colour, 30% for your secondary colour and 10% for your accent colour and you’ll find it hard to go wrong. Also consider that the different rooms in your home need to flow together.

Dress the Bed

A bedroom should be a space which feels calming and helps promote restful sleep. It is a great room to reflect your personality, and as the bed takes up so much visual space it certainly needs some styling. You can always change the colour of your bedding to suit your mood. Look for good quality bed linen in colours and patterns that complement the rest of the room. My favourite place for good bedding is The White Company. The final stage and most impact created, can be to layer like a pro with propped pillows, a bedspread or throw and decorative cushions for a hotel-chic vibe.

Gallery Wall

A staple in the interior design world, the gallery wall is an exercise in creativity and balance, and a great way to add personal photos, postcards, inspirational quotes etc. To achieve that Instagram-worthy display, map out your design beforehand. Cut out cardboard templates of each frame you want to hang and arrange them across the wall with Blu Tac until you find a combination that works for you and you are happy with, then simply swap for the real thing! Here are some layout ideas.

Shelf Styling

Styled shelves can make a huge difference to the look of a room to work between practical storage and a beautiful feature. Here's how to make your bookshelves Instagram-worthy. Do not overcrowd the space, choose accessories in the same colour and group items together in odd numbers. Use books as objects and display them both horizontally and vertically for interest. Aim for two-thirds books, one-third accessories and make sure to include either plants, foliage or flowers too. Watch this video on how to style your shelves.

Accessorise Your Space

The easiest way to create an interior designed look is to add personality and accents by using home accessories. Its’s great to build a collection of staple pieces, such as standout ornaments, vases and good coffee table books. The great thing about accessories like this is that you can change them depending on the seasons and there are so many affordable homeware retailers you can buy these from, my favourite place to pick up reasonably priced statement home accessories is Home Sense.

Mix Up Textures

Mixing textures and materials in your home will help create depth and contrast. For an easy example, using materials such as wood against metallics can be easily done on a budget and look fabulous. Wallpaper can be a great way to bring in new textures and finishes – elegant geometric prints, in understated neutral tones and metallics, can really help bring a space to life and add that designer touch. Different textures can also effect how a space feels. Plants are a great texture to add to any interior space.
