Homes That Make Us Happy

Happy Homes!

The world we are living in now is rather different to the one we lived in a year ago! For many people, requirements have changed over the last 18 months and the function of each space has needed to be re-evaluated. As we spend more time in our own homes, I think now more than ever our homes need to promote happiness. So it’s worth considering how your interior spaces make you feel - and perhaps taking the opportunity to create spaces which make you happy. You can change how a space feels by the colours you use. The top colours for a happy home are:

YELLOW is the most uplifting colour but there are so many different tones of yellow and it can be overpowering. Soft yellow can be very soothing and is a great colour to stimulate the nervous system, which encourages relaxation. The cheerful shade can create instant cosiness and comfort and is great to help with self-esteem. If yellow is too bold for you to paint on the walls, you could add hints of yellow with scatter cushions, accessories or a bunch of flowers!

GREEN is a very calming and soothing colour which also can have a grounding effect connecting your home with the outdoors. Soft greens can be refreshing and signify balance, harmony and relaxation. You can mix and match different tones of green and add some fabulous house plants to make the outdoors flow into your home.

BLUE is a calming and serene colour which is considered beneficial to both mind and body. Blue is a great colour to promote productivity because it can help you to feel calm and focussed. It is great for bedrooms, bathrooms and home offices. Muted blues are considered the most conductive to sleep. Choose a warm blue to stop the room from feeling cold.

PINK reflects warmth and sensitivity. It’s a great choice for a kind, loving individual. Soft pinks are soothing and create feelings of nurturing love and warmth. Vibrant pink signifies a positive outlook on life. Pink is a great colour for living rooms, bedrooms and dining rooms.
