I am super excited to give you some inspiration to transform your Christmas cards into a fabulous decorative display. Here are 6 different ways to display your cards in your home this Christmas, some are likely to create a talking point with friends and family when they come round to enjoy the festive period.
CHRISTMAS TREE WALL
Why not display your old cards on a blank wall to make a Christmas Tree.
This is a great option if you don’t have the space for a full Christmas tree! Find a blank wall and stick your cards using blue tac in the shape of a tree. You could find a cute star decoration to go on the top and then stack up your presents at the bottom of the tree either on the floor or in a large plant pot or on top of a sideboard like I have done here. You could even outline the tree with fairy lights to light it up.
PICTURE FRAME DISPLAY
A fun festive activity you can do with or without the kids!
Why not pick up a vintage picture frame from your local charity shop and upcycle it to fit in with your Christmas colour scheme or theme if you have one. You can use string or ribbon to attach your cards like this one. A fun craft activity to do with or without the kids. Fellow interior designer, lovely Lynne Lambourne shows you how, in this fabulous step by step guide which she has done in conjunction with the British Heart Foundation.
GALLERY WALL
Choose your favourite cards to make a mini gallery wall.
Why not choose your favourite selection of Christmas cards from this year or last, and select a set that works well together to create a mini gallery wall. Using metallic washi tape like this one I bought from Amazon, stick your cards to the wall with blue tac in a relaxed grid formation, then use the tape to make a ‘frame’ around the edge of each card. You could use a plain gold washi tape to frame all of the cards, or a patterned one to really create a jazzy display. Here are some gallery wall layout ideas to help you.
GARLAND DISPLAY
To create a more natural country theme try adding some green foliage to your display.
You could do this using a faux garland or opt for the real thing by sourcing a foraged branch, along with a selection of greenery such as eucalyptus, fir, mistletoe and ivy and create a swag. Attach this along the length of the branch and secure it in place with florists wire. Next take a long length of ribbon and tie to each end of the branch so you can then hang it from a hook or nail in the wall. Next you want to cut three of five lengths of ribbon (keep it an odd number) to hang vertically from the branch and then use small clips or a stapler to attach your cards.
RIBBON DOORS
An easy way to display your cards is with some ribbon.
You can find some ribbon to fit in with your theme or colour scheme and you can attach your Christmas cards with paper clips or little bulldog clips in silver or black, like these ones I found here. You could hang your ribbon lengths on your walls, doors, or down the banisters on your stairs. Floristry Warehouse have a great selection of gorgeous ribbons to choose from.
MIRROR WREATH
A fun way to dress your your round mirror with cards like a wreath.
You can use blue tac to attach your cards around the edge of a round mirror to look like a wreath, you could add extra details like a ribbon bow at the top or hang a group of baubles down the middle to add an extra layer of decoration.
