CHANGING SPACES

I am super excited to share with you the article from Oxfordshire Living Magazine which has just been published.

How do you create a tranquil living space when you've just moved in and you don't have time? Hire an interior designer! Holly Scott talks to us about her latest project.

My latest project can be seen on these pages – a new home for clients in Wallingford, south Oxfordshire. “They [my clients] moved into this house and wanted to make it their own but didn’t know where to start and didn’t have the time,” explains Holly. “The main open plan kitchen, dining, living space opens out onto the garden so the inspiration for this room was bringing the outside in.”

“For the main living space, they want somewhere that was family-friendly, but that they could use for entertaining their friends and sit and enjoy cocktails in the evening. “

They wanted the snug was to feel cosy and to be a space to chill out and read or watch TV.

“Shades of blue and green were used to create a sense of calm and ‘bring the outside in.’ The colour palette to run through [the whole project] was the ocean, and this tied in with the botanical theme of the open plan space with the dark blue of the snug,” says Holly.

The office needed to feel an inspiring place to work. Check out some home office design tips here.

“One of the best ways to bring the outside in is to add plants to your home,” advises Holly. Biophilic design is the practice
of creating a closer connection to nature through the ways buildings and landscapes are created and built, they can add life to a space or design, create a connection with the seasonal changes outside the design. Bringing fresh air into a space makes it feel fresh and new.

Multiple studies have shown that indoor plants affect how happy and healthy you are. They improve your mood, reduce fatigue and can improve your performance and focus in a workspace. Plants are also known to lower stress and anxiety and increase your healing and pain tolerance.

If you love the idea of creating the interiors of your dreams yourself, I have just launched my new course, Happy Home Design.

In this online course, Holly teaches interiors enthusiasts how to turn their home into their dream space, because “happy homes make happy people”.

“This course is for you if you you want to create your dream home but don’t know where to start,” says Holly. “Or if you feel unhappy when you walk into your home, or you want to add colour to your home but are scared about how to use it successfully, and want to redecorate without making expensive mistakes. Happy Home Design, teaches you, in six weeks or less, how to design your dream space.”
